PROVOST’S ADDRESS TO THE FIRST CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF TNM MEDIA ACADEMY DELIVERED BY MR. ABDULRASAQ ABDULGANEEY, (MR GRA) HELD IN THE ACADEMY HALL, TNM MEDIA ACADEMY, DUGBE, IBADAN ON SATURDAY, 10TH, APRIL, 2021
Protocol
The Chairman and other members of the Governing Council/Advisory Board, representatives of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), representative of BOTAVED, representatives of sister institutions, the movers and shakers of the media industry here present, our convocation guest speaker, Prof. Afis Oladosu and Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan; our esteemed graduands and students, gentlemen of the press, ladies and gentlemen…
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the maiden Convocation Ceremony of this pioneer media academy in Oyo State. TNM Media Academy was approved byOyo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BOTAVED). The Academy which has been in operation informally for about two decades now has produced a good number of broadcasters most of whom are now well known in the industry. Since November 2019 when the maiden edition of our matriculation ceremony was held, we have trained close to a two hundred broadcast journalists who are being convoked here today for the award of Diplomaand Certificate in Broadcast Presentation and Production.
Ladies And gentlemen, at TNM Media Academy, our curriculum is practical bias. It is a smooth blend of both practical and theory such that the conventional dichotomy between training and practice has been removed. We run full practical oriented programmes in media-allied professions like Broadcasting, Advertising, Public Speaking, Journalism and media productions. Based on our vision to provide 100% practical training in all media-allied vocations, we run bespoke programmes, especially for busy executives. We are committed to converting talents to marketable skills.
Let me also inform you that most of our graduands today are already practicing as freelance broadcasters. They have their own programmes running on different radio stations across the south-west. This is a reflection of our philosophy to produce mediapreneurs and job providers rather than job seekers. With our 13-week certificate programmes, a talented person is ready to practice. Our track record is evidential of this. I therefore, admonish our graduands to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession as contained in the National Broadcasting Codes and other professional regulations in Nigeria. Respect your clients and try to grow organically. You cannot rise to the sky in one day but the sky is not your limit if you are dedicated, patient, honest, committed and professional in your dealings.
I, once again, appreciate the Zonal Director of NBC, Ibadan Zonal Office and his team for their usual support and supervision of our activities. Thank you for always being here for us. The Oyo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education under the leadership of Mrs. E. C. Esan-Williams has also been of very tremendous support to the Academy since we got government approval in 2019. She took her time to screen and sign all our certificates in preparation for this convocation. Thank you ma. I am also grateful toall members of our Governing Council/Advisory Board- Alh. Dr. L.O. Salami, Prof. Ayobami Ojebode, Prof. Afis Oladosu, Chief Dotun Sanusi and Amb. Romoke- for your kindness, professional guide and moral supports. You all are so invaluable to us at TNM Media Academy.
I once again, on behalf of students, staff, the Academic, the management and the Governing Council of TNM Media Academy, congratulate our teeming graduands and welcome the into the world of broadcast profession. I wish you the best in your professional endeavours in the media industry.
God bless you all and God bless TMN Media Academy.
Greatest TNMites!
Thank you.
